Thinking Geographically

Today in class we started a new unit after the excellence unit and test. To start the unit off we had a work sheet on the different regions around the world. I felt like this work sheet was very easy, I only had to research one name of a region. I believe I did so well because I used to be very interested in geography and at one of my old schools, which was a K-8 school I came in third place in the geography bee when I was in third grade. I have since stopped studying so far into geography, but still retained some of the knowledge I had learned in the past. This makes me hopeful for this new unit because I fell like I know more than most of class. I am also hopeful for this unit because I had previously had a passion for geography and might be able to bring some of that passion to learning again.

Rome rap

Today we got a lot accomplished. First we reviewed all of Rome by listening to a very well done rap made by Mr.Schick. After that we got very far in the power point. We started with how the common folk were given free bread as a sort of welfare. Then we took notes on the Colosseum and Circus Maxims which I have been to. We moved onto Julius Caesar and his conquering of Gaul and the Rubicon and how Pompey became jealous. We finished with his murder by the senate. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1zEi9xi3gni-iKd7UYUX41NRYB2V-qjsz9PyaU5awrp0/edit?usp=sharing

The rise of Christianity

Toady in class instead of reviewing the test we read and took notes on the next three sections. The first section was on the Rise of Christianity and talked about how Jesus' teachings spread. The most important reason they spread was because his teachings brought salvation to all. Christianity was a vision that a Roman emperor had before he went into battle. They won the battle and he made it so Christians would no longer be persecuted.

Rome vs. america

Today in class we focused on comparing the Roman government to the American government. The early American government was based off of the Roman republic. Romans believed that strawberries  could cure bad breath.
