Human Geography

 Toady in class instead of reviewing the test we read and took notes on the next three sections. The first section was on the Rise of Christianity and talked about how Jesus' teachings spread. The most important reason they spread was because his teachings brought salvation to all. Christianity was a vision that a Roman emperor had before he went into battle. They won the battle and he made it so Christians would no longer be persecuted.

Today was the final test on ancient Rome. I was absent yesterday and didn't get all of the notes for the emperors. I feel i did very well on this test. I was the first to finish and knew almost every answer. I didn't use my blogs on the test because there isn't information that already didn't know on my blog.

 Today we got a lot accomplished. First we reviewed all of Rome by listening to a very well done rap made by Mr.Schick. After that we got very far in the power point. We started with how the common folk were given free bread as a sort of welfare. Then we took notes on the Colosseum and Circus Maxims which I have been to. We moved onto Julius Caesar and his conquering of Gaul and the Rubicon and how Pompey became jealous. Today class was 10 min shorter than usual because of an assembly. The class was pretty easy because the class didn't want to take many notes. All of class was spent on one slide on Roman laws vs American laws. We got off track with the Bill of Rights and every  amendment we had a discussion.

Today in class we focused on comparing the Roman government to the American government. The early American government was based off of the Roman republic. Romans believed that strawberries  could cure bad breath.

   Today in class we did more of the Rome power point. We also talked about the Boston marathon for some reason. We also talked about Chernobyl and the radioactive dogs living there.

     Today in class we started a power point on Rome. Most of the class was discussing the settlers of Rome, Remus and Romulus and the tyranny of the last king of Rome.

Today class was only 35 minutes because we got out at 12:45. We reviewed the rest of the test as classmates made their claims on what questions shouldn't be on the test. Since I read the book so I knew the answers. Overall everyone was given an extra 4 points added to their test which raised my 92 to a 96.

Today we started our unit on Rome. The first chapter covered a lot of Roman history. It covered the beginning of the republic and how it functioned. And the Punic wars with Carthage. The rest of class was spent on going over the test. I did very well on this test in relationship to the rest of the class. I don't know why people were complaining that we weren't taught some of the information because I remember studying all of it even the questions I didn't know.

Today in class we took the final test on Greece. The test was all multiple choice which I liked a lot. The test was really easy I don't know how most thought it was hard. I felt like I knew every question except a couple on the Philosophers.

Today the first part of class was spent on finishing up the last section of Greece. Class was cut short today because we had a prayer service. The last part of the chapter was about the Hellenistic philosophy and it was broken up into two sections. One section called for living a life in full harmony with the universe. The other had people base their life on full body and mind synchronization. The last part of class we watched a part in an interesting movie about Alexander.

    Today in class we reviewed the last section of the Greek chapter on Hellenistic culture. Hellenistic culture formed after Alexander the great's conquests. It mixed Greek, Persian and India cultures. The center of Hellenistic culture was the city of Alexandria. It had many architectural and intellectual attractions. it was also a center for trade. The was a large library and museum where people came to study and exchange ideas.

Today we did not have class because Das Wetter ist shneit.

     After the conquests of Asia and Africa by Alexander the Great the Greeks adopted a blended culture. This culture was known as Hellenistic. The common language was known as Koine. It was a blend of Greek and Persian languages. The greatest city of the Greek empire was known as Alexandria. It was a very rich city located in Egypt. Royal palaces were built and Alexander's tomb was located there. A large lighthouse called Pharos that reflected light from a fire. In Alexandria were two great sources of knowledge Alexander's library and museum. These were the greatest sources of knowledge in all of the ancient world and brought visitors from around Europe, Asia and Africa. The Hellenic empire also developed different studies of astronomy, mathematics and physics. The forerunner's of Hellenic math were Archimedes and Euclid.

Today in class we took notes on Alexander the great. Since my project already required research on Alexander the great so I knew a little about this topic. First his father Philip 2 had conquered all of Greece. he was planning on invading Persia but was murdered before he could. Then Alexander came into power. Alexander was a great Tactician and was taught by the philosopher Aristotle. He vowed to lead out his father's promises. He lead his army into Persia successfully winning the first battle. The went and liberated Egypt where they crowned him pharaoh. His military used a mix of the phalanx and cavalry units. He went on to conquer large parts of Asia until he got to India. They had been fighting for 11 years and Alexander decided to turn around. The he became severely ill and died at the age of thirty-two.

Today in class we started presentations on Greece. Our presentation on our phalanx  and the trident. Our presentation didn't go so well because I felt like I had enough time to say everything.

  Today in class we finished the video on philosophy. Class was a little off topic today because we were debating gun control and color. We debated on if we all see different colors but since the way which we are taught we cant notice the difference.

     The last tow days in class we have been watching a video on a summary on philosophy. Even though it is a 11 minute video we have spent two classes and are still not halfway through. Philosophy can be described with many definitions the one that ancient Greeks used is the academic study of everything. This is a very broad definition but today we usually describe philosophy as the study of reality. Philosophy can also be described as the love of wisdom.

   Today in class we finished up the powerpoint with philosophers of Greece. The three main philosophers we focused on were Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Socrates is one of the most famous Greek philosophers and one of the first. He challenged the people of Athens to think critically. he started to question the credibility of the Greek Gods which is against Athenian law and he was sentenced to death despite being well respected. Plato was one of Socrates' (I also put the apostrophe at the end) pupils. After his death he became very popular with his two most famous books Republic and Apology. Aristotle was one of Plato's students and he would go on to teach Alexander the Great and create a school. He wanted to unify Athens as a intellectual destination.

Today in class we were supposed to take notes on the golden age of Greece and Pericles but I had already done that after the test Friday. After we took notes we reviewed the test which I did very well on. I only missed one question because I remembered some geography incorrectly.
